We have strong german Christmas traditions in the family, as my mother in-law is German and we both grew up in Strasbourg.
This year, we documented the tastiest of them: Christmas biscuit baking with the wise guidance of my in law, doing that kind of things four handedly makes it definitely quite fun. The winter sun coming straight onto the worktop seemed to be part of the action, perfect for the pics!
We do batches of around a hundred pieces, so this is where our very large oven comes handy (not to mention that La Cornue ovens bake heavenly…).
The basic ingredients are obviously the same: flour, butter, sugar, but each kind of biscuit has it’s own twist. Lemon, cinnamon, nutmeg, almonds, hazelnut.
We made 4 sorts, a good step forward to the 13 deserts traditionally served in Provence for Christmas: culinary syncretism!
So of course, there is no point trying to go on a diet before every single one of them has been eating, that’s pretty much the only down side… as everything to do with tasty food…
