Half Day Class
Hands on Learning
Half day introduction to Indigo
Experience the indigo magic and understand the technique behind it by dyeing your own linen scarf with a reserve pattern

We will explore the concept of reserving to create a pattern and how it has been used for millennia all over the globe, with different techniques and different materials.
We will discuss a couple of reserve techniques that allow for spectacular results, and you will choose which one to try. I will provide plenty of examples to inspire you from my collection.
I will help you place the reserve on a linen scarf and teach you to handle the fabric when dyeing in order to obtain the best results.
Program
We briefly will go over the different types of fibers and focus on cellulosics for our class. I will explain how to prepare the fabric in order to get best results.
I will describe the unique way in which indigo dyes fabric, and the multiple ways in which different cultures around the world have used their own local plant before the indigo globalization

You will dye your scarf and experience the indigo reveal and the steps necessary to create different nuances of blue.
We will also go over the rinsing and the indigo fixing.

The class can be in the morning (starting 9-12 am) or in the afternoon (2-5 pm)
Length of the course is indicative, I am not very good with time keeping once I have set off in the natural dye world! Please let me know form the start of the course if you have an appointment to keep after the class. In any case, I will make sure the result is achieved before sending you off!
